A lot of the Diary of a Wimpy kid books seem to be checked out. So while you're waiting for your request to come in, how about one of these:
The Great Hamster Massacre by Katie Davies a mystery story about dead hamsters. Ok, so not as funny, it is about dead hamsters after all, but has lots of pictures to go along with the story.
So if you like funny and dragons - the Dragonbreath series by Ursula Vernon or The Heroic misadventures of Hiccup the Viking (commonly known as the how to train your dragon books) by Cressida Cowell.
And finally - middle school, funny, and death all in one book - Milo: sticky notes and brain freeze by Alan Silberberg - "drawings and quick-witted humor that will keep the pages turning"
