We often don't think about the things in our world that are common placed. Everyday, we hear, see, touch, and smell things that we give little or no thought to. For instance, can you imagine a world without color? I certainly would not want to live in a place like that...Would you?The books listed below are a celebration of colors around you.
Although, these are not your average color concept books for they have incorporated die-cut pages as part of the illustrations. By simply turning the page you are able to change your visual perception. I find that this makes the experience as a reader more interactive. The stories are simple, but I am sure that you will find much to discuss after you have looked at the pages closely. To extend your child's experience you could place Eye Spy game and focus on colors. Happy Reading!
Green Laura Vaccaro Seeger.
How many kinds of green are there? There's the lush green of a forest on a late spring day, the fresh, juicy green of a just-cut lime, the incandescent green of a firefly, and the vivid aquamarine of a tropical sea. In her newest book, Caldecott and Geisel Honor Book author Laura Vaccaro Seeger fashions an homage to a single color and, in doing so, creates a book that inspires delight in all the colors of creation.
The Color Box Dayle Ann Dodds
Alexander the monkey finds an ordinary-looking box with spots of color inside, through which he journeys to many bright landscapes of different colors. The Rainbow Book Kate Ohrt.
A whole rainbow of feelings, combined with beautiful cut-paper pages make the perfect gift for any girl. Emotions are as bright and unique as rainbows. The Rainbow Book explores the relationship between colors and sentiments they might inspire. Does yellow suggest happiness? Is blue peaceful? Set against a deep black background, each page reveals an intricate paper-cutting in a single color and the emotion it suggests: "When I feel RED, I am fiery and bold." Each turn of the page reveals another color, leading to a bright rainbow of feelings. A thoughtful gift for everyone from kids to grads, The Rainbow Book culminates with a bright, fold-out rainbow that lets all its colors show.
Duckie's Rainbow Frances Barry.
Turn the graduated pages of this unique shaped book to help Duckie find her way home, and you'll marvel at the dazzling rainbow that appears when she gets there. Duckie is in a hurry to get home. She walks through a red poppy field, hops under an orange bridge, waddles around a yellow cornfield, rushes past a big green tree, and paddles across a deep blue pond. By the time she reaches her nest, purple clouds have begun to rain, but don't worry, the book's rounded pages, each one smaller than the last, form a spectacular rainbow on the last spread! With the boldest of colors and enchantingly simple shapes, Frances Barry's collage illustrations combine with an ingenious format for an eye-popping concept-book.
