Philip Seymour Hoffman was an extraordinary actor. He was able to disappear into a role, making the audience forget about the actor and see only the character. Maybe it was because Hoffman was first and foremost a character actor with the charisma of a lead actor. When taking on a role, he developed it from the inside out. And that made for performances we remember.
Hoffman’s passing came as a shock. He had the love and respect of his peers. His fans looked forward to every performance. His work is to be remembered and treasured. His Oscar-winning performance as Truman Capote in Capote . The brash DJ “The Count” in Pirate Radio . The suspect priest in Doubt . The charismatic leader of The Cause in The Master . The grief-stricken widower in Love Liza . The Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. And so many more.
