Did you know that The New York Times [2] publishes a Bestsellers List specifically for graphic novels? The list is separated into three sections that list hardcover, paperback, and manga novels. Twice a month, I will post "highlights" of their selections, one post dedicated to graphic books and the second dedicated to manga.
All-Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder [3]by Frank Miller. Although Batman and Robin have been around for a while, one might find it difficult to find the first comic book story about duo. This novel tells the story of how it first began and is definitely a must-read for lovers of superheroes and villains.
Asterios Polyp [4] by David Mazzucchelli. Long time illustrator Mazzucchelli unleashes his first written and illustrated graphic novel
Batman: R.I.P. [5] by Grant Morrison received a starred review from Publisher's Weekly for its uncanny storyline and illustrations. In this novel, Batman faces his "most dangerous foes but his own inner demons as well."
Fables Volume 1 [6] (a.k.a Legends in Exile) by Bill Willingham is truly a unique twist of classic fairytale characters living in a modern New York City. Combine murder, mystery, and suspense and you will be sure to look at legends such as Snow White or Prince Charming in a new light.
Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes [7] by Neil Gaiman. Leave it to critically acclaimed author to create an eery yet stunning story about mysticism and the realm of Morpheus, the god of dreams. This is a must-read for lovers of graphic novels and the supernatural.
V for Vendetta [8] by Alan Moore presents dystopic Britain full of crime and terror. It is up to the novel's protagonist "V" to intervene the unjust actions between government and its peoples. If you enjoy this novel, be sure to check out the movie adaptation [9] as well!
Watchmen [10] by Alan Moore is now a popular movie adaptation [11]. The story is about a group of superheroes that are stunned by a plot to remove their existence by an unknown nemesis. This title is another classic in the graphic novel canon; be sure to read this.
