As promsed in last week's post, I highlighted selections listed in The New York Times ' Graphic Novels Bestsellers List. Listed below are popular graphic novels in the Manga genre. I also included links to multiple series' anime counterparts (if available) for your enjoyment.
Bleach  by Kubo Tite is a very popular series among graphic novel lovers. In the first volume  of Bleach you will meet Ichigo, a teenager and "formidable substitute Soul Reaper" to unrested spirits. If you wish to watch it instead, check out the anime series .
Fruits Basket  by Natsuki Takaya is a real treat for those who like a little romance in their reading. In this mystical and widely popular Japanese series, the reader is presented to Tohru Honda, an orphaned schoolgirl with no home. She is quickly accepted to live with the Sohma family who are rumored to be cursed. Although their curse is never mentioned outside of the home, the Sohma family are embodiments of the Chinese Zodiac! We also have the anime series  available for check out!
Full Metal Alchemist  by Hiromu Arakawa is also another series available as anime . In this series about Alchemy and all things mystical, the reader is introduced to Edward and Alphonse, who "dabble in these powers to grant their dearest wish, they become slaves of the military-alchemical complex."
Naruto  by introduces you to Uzumaki Naruto, your typical ninja-in-training teen who is battling his own demons...literally! Unbeknownst to him, he possesses a demon that prevents him from moving on and accelerating in the ninja world. Be sure to check out the anime version  if you enjoy the manga!
Ouran High School Host Club  by Bisco Hatori has a romantic and comedic twist. Because of its suggestive themes, it not suitable for readers 12 years and younger. In Hatori's fictional series, readers meet Haruhi, a poor girl who attends Ouran, a high school for rich kids. She is chosen to be part of the school's All Male host club although she is a girl!
