One of the advantages of being a geek in a large city is the wonderful conventions in my own backyard. I admit it. I am a con addict. I have been going to fandom conventions since 1984 and will probably still be going when I have to incorporate my walker into my cosplay. During March and April, I have three opportunities to get my geek on with one comic/scifi/fantasy convention and two anime conventions in town.
Kamikaze Con kicks things off March 19th-21st. This anime convention features voice actors, bands, industry professionals, and cosplayers. Their schedule includes panels on Steampunk style, Sushi 101, Mock Combat for Cosplay, and many other topics! Advance registration is over but you can still get tickets at the door. Guests include Christopher Ayres (One Piece ), Clarine Harp (Kiddy Grade ) and Richard Ian Cox (Inuyasha ).
When you hear the name Comicpalooza , you may think comic books but this convention has evolved into a comic, science fiction, fantasy, media and gaming convention. It has celebrite guests such as Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer ), Bruce Campbell (Army of Darkness , Burn Notice ), and Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse ). Authors include Catherine Asaro and Gene Wolfe . This convention runs March 26th-28th.
Easter weekend (April 2nd through 4th) brings Anime Matsur i. Hop down the bunny trail to the Woodlands for a weekend of cosplay, gaming, music, and Japanese culture. Of course, there will be anime and manga galore. Matthew Mercer (Trigun , Fushigi Yugi ) hosts the weekend and shares the stage with voice actors such as Crispin Freeman (Code Geass ) and Mike McFarland (Fruits Basket ).
See you there!
