The major Emmy Awards were handed out this past Sunday night, and I was very happy to see some of my favorite actors and actresses receive much deserved attention.
In the Comedy categories, freshman series Modern Family took six Emmys. Among them were Outstanding Comedy and Supporting Actor Eric Stonestreet. Another freshman, Glee , won four Emmys, including Supporting Actress – one of my favorites – Jane Lynch. Houston native Jim Parsons took home the Lead Actor award for The Big Bang Theory . And Edie Falco won for her star turn in Nurse Jackie , one of two awards for that series.
For Drama, it was a three-peat for Bryan Cranston as the Lead Actor in Breaking Bad . His co-star Aaron Paul won for Supporting Actor. Kyra Sedgwick finally got her long-deserved award for Lead Actress in a drama for The Closer . ("Thank you!") Archie Panjabi won for Supporting Actress for her work in The Good Wife. The Best Drama Series award went to another three-peat – Mad Men . That award was one of four for the show.
Al Pacino won Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his portrayal of Jack Kevorkian in You Don’t Know Jack. But the biggest winners were The Pacific, with eight awards including Outstanding Miniseries, and Temple Grandin with seven awards. Among those were Outstanding Made for Television Movie, Lead Actress Clare Danes, Supporting Actress Julia Ormond, and Supporting Actor David Strathairn.
And I have to mention one other Emmy recipient – Betty White for hosting Saturday Night Live . She’s been a favorite of mine as far back as I can remember – and that’s a long way. I remember her on the original Password with her husband Allen Ludden. She’s an exceptional talent who deserves all the recognition she’s received this past year.
