I don't know about you all, but I'm a couch potato, and I like running about as much as I like getting a root canal. I might even go as far as saying I loathe it. I often joke that the only time I will voluntarily run is if I'm being chased by an ax-wielding maniac. I've tried running before, but the shin splints I get are indescribably painful. As much as I detest it though, running/jogging is still one of the best ways to lose weight and get in shape. So, it's time for me to get past the loathing, pain, whining, complaining, pain, excuses, pain, did I mention pain?, and get off the couch.
If you're like me and you'd rather start slow, try the Couch to 5K Running program, designed for people who have never started a running program before. They give you a progressive walking/running schedule designed to have you running a 5k in 9 weeks, though you can take it slower if you prefer. Check out the programs at C25K or Cool Running .
Remember, please check with your doctor before beginning any exercise program.
