January is the month that Texas children in third through sixth grades vote for their favorite book nominated for the Texas Bluebonnet Award. Each year the Texas Bluebonnet Award committee draws up a list of 20 books nominated by students, parents, teachers, librarians and others to be considered for the Texas Bluebonnet Award. Public school children vote for the Texas Bluebonnet Award book at school. Homeschoolers can vote for their favorite Texas Bluebonnet Award book at Freeman Library next Monday, January 30 in the Children's Department.
To vote for the Bluebonnet nominees at Freeman Library, a child must be homeschooled and have read at least 5 of the Bluebonnet Award nominees. The Children's Department still has an assortment of Bluebonnet nominees to read. The winner of the Texas Bluebonnet Award will be announced at the Texas Library Association Annual Conference on April 19.
