Lost City of Z

Title to be discussed: Lost City of Z, by David Grann. Date of meeting: Thursday, April 22, 1:30pm in the Earl Elliott Room. Will be repeated Friday, April 23, 2:30pm in the Women's Council of Realtors Conference Room. Summary: Journalist David Grann delves deep into the mystery surrounding British explorer Percy Fawcett's disappearance in 1925,  and the even greater mystery of what Fawcett was seeking in the Amazon valley. Next selection: Art of Racing in the Rain.

Baldwin Boettcher Branch -- Evening Book Club

Nectar in a SieveTitle to be discussed: Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya. Date of meeting: Monday, May 10, at 6:30 PM. Summary: Named Notable Book of 1955 by the American Library Association, this is the very moving story of a peasant woman in a primitive village in India whose whole life was a gallant and persistent battle to care for those she loved.

Title to be discussed: Half-Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls.  Date of meeting: Wed., April 29, 10 am, Meeting Room. 

West University Library-Book Club Selection for May 5

Short GirlsTitle to be discussed: Short Girls, by Bich Minh Nguyen.  Date of meeting: Wednesday May 5, 11:00 AM at the Buffalo Grille, on 3116 Bissonnet.  Summary: Van and Linny Luong enact the stereotypical roles of studious, straight-A sister and pretty, popular slacker. The daughters of Vietnamese refugees living in Michigan, the women drift apart as Van pursues a law career and marries a picture-perfect Chinese American classmate.

Murder in Texas; Book Club that is!

The Mystery Book Club has decided to explore the many Texas Mystery Writers.  Great Texas authors include Rick Riordan, Bill Crider and Kinky Friedman.  See if you are able to discover more and present them at the April Book Club Meeting on April 21 at 2 pm.  Come enjoy the lively discussion while enjoying a taste of Texas food.  We welcome new comers and how to see you there.
