West University Library-Book Club Selection for April 7

Age of InnocenceTitle to be discussed: The Age of Innocence, by Edith Wharton.  Date of meeting:  Wednesday April 7, 11:am, at 6104 Auden.  Summary:  Winner of the 1921 Pulitzer Prize, The Age of Innocence is Edith Wharton’s masterful portrait of desire and betrayal during the sumptuous Golden Age of Old New York, a time when society people “dreaded scandal more than disease.”  May selection:

RACHEL BRADY IS COMING

The LSC-Tomball Community Library is pleased to present mystery author Rachel Brady. In lieu of the Mystery Book Club this month, Rachel will speak about her writing and experiences as an author. Following her presentation, Murder by the Book will sell copies of her book, which she will be glad to sign.  A portion of her book sales will be contributed to the Tomball Friends of the Library.                        

Barbara Bush Branch -- Evening Book Club

                        Title to be discussed: The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe. Date of meeting: Tuesday, March 9, 7:00 in the Women's Council of Realtor's Conference room (WCR). Summary: "Forced to set aside her Ph.D. research in order to help the settling of her late grandmother's abandoned home, Connie Goodwin discovers a hidden key among her grandmother's possessions that is linked to a darker chapter in Salem witch trial history." Baldwin Boettcher Branch -- Club de Literatura Hispana

Title to be discussed:  Delirio by Laura Restrepo.  Date of meeting:  Tuesday, March 23, at 6 PM.  Summary:  Aguilar returns home after a short business trip only to find that his wife, Agustina, has gone crazy. Having no idea what could have happened during his absence, and hoping to help her overcome this crisis, he begins to investigate, what he discovers are deep and disturbing facts hidden in the past of the woman he loves. Delirio is a story of love and madness, mysteries and secrets in the midst of the breakdown of Colombian society. The author shows an uncommon narrative energy, in which the suspense is held until a hopeful end that closes a beautiful novel. Wonderfully constructed, magnificently narrated and brilliantly developed.

 The Bear CrThe Stone Monkey by Jeffery Deavereek Mystery Book Club met on Wednesday, February 17th and discussed The Stone Monkey by Jeffery Deaver. Their next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 17th at 11 AM. They will discuss Knock Out by Catherine Coulter. Stop by for snacks and a discussion that will have you putting on your detective hat!

North Channel Book Club for February

Date of meeting: Wednesday, February 24th, 10am.   Summary: Barcelona, 1945—A great world city lies shrouded in secrets after the war, and a boy mourning the loss of his mother finds solace in his love for an extraordinary book called The Shadow of the Wind, by an author named Julian Carax.

Katy Branch - Who Dun It @ the Library

Title to be discussed:  Death's Half Acre by Margaret Maron.  Date of meeting:  Saturday, March 6, 10:30am.  Summary:  Unchecked urbanization has begun to eclipse the North Carolina countryside.

BARBARA BUSH BRANCH -- AFTERNOON BOOK CLUB

True WomenTitle to be discussed: True Women, by Janice Woods Windle. Date of meeting: Thursday, Feb. 25, 1:30pm in the Earl Elliott meeting room [repeated Friday, Feb. 26, 2:30pm in the Women's Council of Realtors Conference Room]. Summary: This novel is about several generations of strong Texas women, based upon the lives of Windle's own ancestors. A tour of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts will follow each discussion, including  the Wilson Potters exhibit.

Katy Branch - Spanish Book Club/Club Hispano de Libros

Hija de la MemoriaTitle to be discussed: Hija de la Memoria by Kim Edwards.  Date of meeting: Wednesday, March 3, 6:00pm.  This book discussion group, conducted in Spanish, meets on the first Wednesday of each month.  Spanish speakers, join us!
