Wonderfully Wordless

Picture books can represent many things to many people: an introduction to reading, a portal to a different world, a bringer of nostalgia or simply a happy place. No matter what, when you crack open a picture book you're sucked into a different world-- one filled with raining meatballs, typing cows, dinosaurs going to bed and so many other amazing, heart warming, laugh out loud, creative journeys. And sometimes, those worlds are just shown to us, without any words at all, allowing each reader to create their own story, their own world, their own adventure. Here are 9 worldess picture books, just waiting to be opened and explored.

Star Wars Festival

With May the 4 long past, and Star Wars Episode IX still a long ways off, I’m sure many of you are feeling a distinct lack of the Force in your life. If that is the case, make sure that you come to the Evelyn Meador Branch Library’s Star Wars Festival on September 8. What We're Reading

The librarians at the Evelyn Meador Branch Library read A LOT of books! I’m sure that comes as no surprise to you. Today, we decided to share some of what we are reading. This might even help you know who to ask for the next time you need a book recommendation.

Hurricane Watch

Now that our Summer Reading Program is drawing to a close (come and get your prizes if you haven’t already), we at Evelyn Meador Branch Library are moving into a little bit of downtime until school starts. However, we still have a lot to offer the community that you should come in to see. With the anniversary of Hurricane Harvey coming up, and with hurricane season still in full swing, we want to help teach people how to deal with hurricanes. As such, on Tuesday, August 14, at 6:30 PM we have invited NOAA meteorologist Jeffry Evans, to come to the library and discuss some of these issues. With a lot of good information, like hurricane preparedness, a discussion on how much of an anomaly Hurricane Harvey was, and how weather watches work, this lecture is one that you are sure to want to attend.
