August Book Clubs at Northwest Branch Library

Good news readers, there are several book clubs that meet regularly at the Northwest Branch Library. Did you know that there are several benefits associated with actively attending a book club? Book clubs have been known to decrease stress and are good for those customers who are of retirement age. Book Clubs can help participants gain new perspective on an issue, make new friends and to hopefully become more involved in their community. Also, if you're an aspiring writer, regular book club participation can help improve or expand your own writing skills. Perhaps the best reason to particpiate in an active book club is that it can give a reader the push they need to finish that book.

Harry Potter Birthday Celebration!

Crosby Book Club Meets Friday, July 19 @ 2 pm

Mark Watney is marooned on Mars.  A violent dust storm has forced his crew to abort their mission.  Thinking him dead, and with no time to lose, they left the planet.

The storm also destroyed the mission’s communication systems.  Mark has no way of letting anyone know he’s still alive.  Maybe he won't be much longer.

Utterly alone on a hostile planet, Mark must find a way to survive against impossible odds.

Crosby Book Club will meet to discuss The Martian, by Andy Weir, on Friday, July 19, at 2 pm.  Copies are available for check out at the front desk.  New members welcome!

On the Pitch

Not only is this month the start odf summer reading, but it's time again for one of my favorite event: the Women's World Cup. This year is host to the 8th annual tournament, and it all kicks off June 7th. I've followed soccer for so many years, so I wanted to celebrate the tournament and share some titles-some for all ages, and for all levels of soccer knowledge. Don't worry, you don't need to be able to explain (or understand) the offside rule to like these books. So keep you eyes on the books (and the game) and enjoy!
