Olympics

The 2004 Olympic Games open in Athens, Greece on Friday, August 13.  We have put together some links to assist you in finding information on the games.  To get you started, we have the official sites and media outlets. There is also information on the Paralympic Games which are held at the same time ast the Olympic Games.  Although held separately, we have included information on the Special Olympics. To round out the information, we have sites on history, Texas Olympians, sites for kids, and selected books.

Athens 2004

Official site of the 2004 Olympiad.  Includes schedules, results, biographies, news, and weather.

ESPN Olympics

Besides the usual news and schedules, ESPN offers an overview of each sporting event including an outlook for the US team, equipment, scoring, and game information.

The Ancient Olympics

An exhibit from the Perseus Digital project on the ancient and modern games.  Includes information on the history and context of the ancient games, the sports in ancient times and information on their modern counterparts, athletes stories, and a tour of ancient Olympia. 

The Olympic Games in the Ancient Hellenic World

A virtual museum offering history, anecdotes, definitions, and a gallery.  Requires free registration.  From Dartmouth College.

The Foundation of the Hellenic World offers an exhibition on the Olympic games and a virtual reality tour of ancient Olympia.
