Aldine

A Rhyme and Reason

Did you know that April is National Poetry Month? Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is the largest literary celebration in the world.  The Aldine Library will be celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture throughout the month. We will be reading poems over the library loud speaker to expose everyone in the library to our collection. Get ready to hear some good poetry!

The Friend's of the Library shop is open for business!

Now we hope you have all seen, and gotten some reading materials from our Friend's of the Library book sale. And we know you've gotten a pair of head phones at our front desk. Did you know we have also been selling manilla folders, pens, and pencils?

And if that isn't exciting enough for you our friend's group has just started selling chips!

The Big Spring Clean

Ah, spring time. Warmer temps, Spring Break, and cleaning! Here at Aldine we are having our annual Library Spring Cleanup Day on the morning of Wednesday, March 11th from 9:30 am - 12 pm. We are seeking volunteers from the community who will help us prepare for the summer by dusting, wiping down tables, picking up litter, and performing general housekeeping duties. If you can join us and help out call the library at (281) 445-5560.

Free Computer Classes @ Aldine

The Aldine Library offers free computer classes each week in both English and Spanish! Topics include computer basics, email basics, internet basics, and Microsoft Word. Check out the full schedule on our branch calendar.

Calling all Lego builders!

Hey kids! Did you know? The Aldine Library's Lego Club meets on the 4th Saturday of each month at 2 PM in the Meeting Room. Come join us and put your Lego creation on display!

Chile Limón Wins!

On Wednesday, February 18th, the Aldine Library celebrated Black History Month and African American potato chip inventor George Crum by sampling different potato chip varieties. Children and adults alike enjoyed eating chips while hearing about the life and work of Mr. Crum. Then, we passed out ballots and patrons voted on their favorite potato chip flavor. The variety with the most votes- the official Aldine Library potato chip- is Chile Limón!

National Chocolate Month coming to a close.

National Chocolate Month is coming to a close.  The 1st week brought us 151 customers who enjoyed chocolate candy bars.  During week 2, 206 customers enjoyed Hersey's Hugs and Kisses to celebrate Valentine's day and National Chocolate Month.  This week 155 customers enjoyed brownies to celebrate their birthdays, unbirthdays and National Chocolate Month.  So join us next week to celebrate National Chocolate Month with tootsie rolls.

See you next week.  Which day?  Maybe you will have to come in every day and see us to find out.

Chip Appeal

Come to the Aldine Library to celebrate Black History Month and African American potato chip inventor George Crum! Join us on Wednesday, February 18th at 4 PM as we honor the life of Mr. Crum by sampling different potato chips. Yum! You will be able to vote on your favorite. The variety with the most votes will become the official Aldine Library potato chip. Be a part of potato chip history in the making at Aldine. No crumbs will be left behind.

It's Coming together or should I say apart?

Have you seen the latest?  We have completed step 3 in the new arrangement of the library.  We have a huge children's area for everyone to enjoy.  Tables and chairs are placed farther apart and we are anxious to have our first Summer Reading Program where everyone may sit and enjoy the show.  There is still more work to be done so pardon our mess and come in to enjoy our library.  If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let us know.  Look at the bulletin boards, no, they are not new just in a different place for all to enjoy.

Computer Class Schedule Change at Aldine

Beginning February 10th, the Aldine Library will move its 2:00 pm English-language computer class (currently held on Mondays and Wednesdays) to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-6:50 PM.  We will no longer offer a class at 2:00 pm. We are glad to offer this new computer class at a more convenient hour for people to take advantage of it.
