Aldine

Check it Out!

In celebration of Keith Haring's birthday Aldine had a teen program  to talk about street art. We discussed the  form, style, legality, and morality of graffiti, with a focus on Houston based artists. After the presentation the youth created stickers, and stencils, andcopy of teen's artwork drew on butcher paper. Their art work is on display in the library, and also pictured here.

A.P.E. Volunteers & the Art Car Parade 2013

May 11th was Houston's 26th annual art car parade and the Aldine Project Experience (APE) teens were part of the festivities. Our teen volunteers worked for weeks to create their own book cart. They also cut out many cardboard cars and trucks for children to decorate. On the day of the parade they set up the library's spot in the "Kid's Zone," asked kids to join in the craft, and helped them create their own little art cars. The craft was so popular that we ran out of cars before the parade even started. It was a great event and the teens were thrilled to be part of it.

Our printers aren't working!

The good news is that we have new computers! The bad news is that our new computers don't know how to send print jobs to our printing system. So while our Network Services figure it out, you'll be unable to print here at the Aldine Library. We'll be glad to direct you to one of our other branches. Thank you for your patience!

Community Volunteer @ ALD

Ms. Lorena Banda (pictured on the left) assisted with Bilingual Storytime on the morning of Thursday, May 1st. Lorena has been a regular volunteer at Aldine since September of 2012. Thank you for all of your hard work, Lorena! We certainly appreciate it.

Brrrr...

All the weather forecasters are saying we're going to have some really cold weather tonight. We may set a new record for low temperatures at this time of year! So all the more reason to come in, get some books and DVDs and be ready to spend the night cuddled up in your nice warm place, enjoying your library items!snowflakes

Aldine Library Sidewalk Project

The City of Houston has begun their project to widen the sidewalk in front of the Aldine Library. Today, an excavator dug up the asphalt that comprised the STAFF parking lot driveway. However, the PUBLIC parking lot driveway is still intact.

We'll keep you posted on any updates or developments regarding this project!
