2016 Programming at Aldine Library

We're off to a good start in 2016 here at the Aldine Libray. We are back with our regular programming that includes English Language Aquistion classes (ELA), computer classes as well as storytimes for children & events for teens. Check out our online calendar for a complete schedule of events at the library. And have you seen our excellent Martin Luther King, Jr, book display? It's in the children's section with the Easy Picture Books.

Have a great week!

Young Playwrights at Aldine Library

clouds light sun

Hey, parents! Do you have a middle school aged child who is interested in theater? Does your child enjoy creative writing? The Aldine Library is proud to be partnering with Houston's Brave Little Company to host a playwrighting workshop for students grades 6-8 on Saturday, December 12th from 2-3 PM.

The workshop is free but registration is required

Let Your Voices Be Heard! The Young Playwrights for Change Competition and Workshops for Grades 6 - 8.

If this world is ever going to change for the better (and even the most optimistic will admit there are things that need improvement), it is going to be young people who lead the way. Harris County Public Library is partnering with Houston’s “Theater for everyone,” Brave Little Company, and Young Audiences of Houston to give area middle schoolers an opportunity to have their voices for change heard in a new way.

Happy Holidays to our Aldine Library friends!

Hello, everyone! Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. The holiday season is now in full swing. If you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the busy shopping rush, stop by and see us. The Aldine Library will periodically be playing seasonal music over the loudspeaker to get you in the spirit of the holidays. We will also have some occasional treats available to the public to enjoy.

Take care!

Happy Thanksgiving from the Aldine Library

Greetings, everyone! The Aldine Library has special holiday hours this week. We will be closing early on Wednesday, November 25th (at 5 PM). We will then remain closed Thursday through Sunday and reopen on Monday, November 30th, at 1 PM.

Mission Accomplished

dawn

It's a new dawn at the Aldine Library. The HCPL catalog system upgrade and migration is now complete. You can access your account online as before. It may take staff a little longer to process new library cards, etc., as we get accustomed to the system. Thank you for your patience and for bearing with us as we learn the ropes of our new software!

National Healthy Skin Month is November 1st through November 30th

Did you know that November is National Healthy Skin Month?  Today we gave away small bars of Ivory soap.

Why Ivory soap?  During Toddler Time, the kids found out that Ivory soap is the only soap that floats.  Ivory soap is so "pure it floats" because of air bubbles.  Every child who attended story time received a sample.

The leftovers were then given to our other customers.  Try it out.  Another way to use Ivory soap is to make bath crayons.  Grab a grater, a bar of ivory soap, some food coloring, and a little water, and go!  These are fun and easy + fun -- and no strange chemicals, either!

So visiting the library is not just about reading, e-books and computers.  You are able to learn many interesting things as well.  So stop by the Aldine library and see what is happening.

Did I say anything about our caterpillars and butterflies?  That is coming up next.
