The Katherine Tyra Library Popping Up at Clay's Restaurant, Thursday, October 5th

HCPL Katherine TyraWe are so excited about our new pop-up library opportunity. Thanks to the generosity of Clay’s Restaurant, 17717 Clay Road, we will be providing library services in their “Lodge” room this Thursday, October 5, from 11:15 AM to 3:00 PM.

At 11:15 AM we will start with a children’s storytime. We will also have laptops available for public use, library card creation services, crafts and coloring sheets. We will have a limited number of books available for check out and will be able to accept book returns.

If your books were damaged during the flood, please do not return them to us at Clay's.  You can pop by and let us know or call one of the other Harris County Public Library branches for assistance. 

Hispanic Heritage Month 3-D Printing Demonstration

All Kids in grades 2-7 are invited to our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on Oct. 4 at 4:30 pm.  We’ll be having a 3-D printer demonstration and the kids will be able to decorate a 3-D

printed sugar skull keychain. Registration is required. Call 713-466-4438 for more information.

I could not return my library materials because I could not reach the library due to high water. Am I still responsible for the late fees? 

If you return your books by September 15, you will not accrue late fees.

Fall Storytime Schedule for Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library

Our fall storytime schedule will kick off starting, Tuesday, August 29. schedule

Preschool Storytime will be returning to Tuesday mornings at 10:15 AM.  Preschool storytime is a fun, early literacy storytime for children ages 3 to 6 years of age.

Starting this fall, Toddler Time will be held on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings.  Tuesday, August 29 at 2:00 PM marks the beginning of our Tuesday afternoon Toddler Times.  The second session of Toddler Time will be held on Wednesday, August 30, at 11:00 AM.  The content of the weekly programs will be identical.  Toddler Time is an early literacy program for children ages 18 to 35 months.

Infant Storytime will remain on Thursdays at 10:15 AM.  Join us for our first fall session, Thursday, August 31 at 10:15 AM.  This is an early literacy development program for children from birth to 17 months.

On Saturdays at 2:00 PM join us for Lily’s Library Tales.   Lily’s Library Tales is a fun, family storytime experience where listeners share time with Lily, a certified therapy dog, while Betsy, her person, reads.  Betsy is a certified, professional librarian with years of experience sharing wonderful books with children. Lily’s Library Tales can be found in our children’s area and is not a ticketed program.

All of our weekday storytime programs are ticketed.  Free tickets are available for morning storytimes in our children’s area at 10:00 AM when the library opens.  Free tickets for our Tuesday afternoon Toddler Time will be available in our children’s area at 1:00 PM the day of the program.

Preschool Storytime Moving Back to Tuesdays!

Starting next Tuesday, August 29th, Preschool Storytime will move back to Tuesday mornings at 10:15 AM! Preschool Storytime is a ticketed program, so make sure you pick up a ticket from the children’s area when the library opens at 10 AM.

Only the participating child needs a ticket to attend the program; caregivers and siblings who are younger or older are not required to have a ticket to attend. This storytime is geared towards children ages 3-6 years.

Adult Coloring

Do you need a break from the busyness of your everyday schedule? Come join us at the Katherine Tyra Library for a relaxing Adult Coloring program on Monday, August 21st at 3:00 PM! Coloring sheets and supplies are provided. Hope to see you there!

Come Enjoy Chess at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library, Friday August 18

chessWhat is so great about playing chess? The answer is: a lot. Research states that playing chess improves both creativity and memory functions in the brain.  It uses both sides of the brain and improves problem-solving skills.  More than that, it is a fun game to share with a friend. 

Please join us on Friday, August 18 at 3:00 PM at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library to enjoy a game of chess.  The boards will be set up in our foreign language area  waiting for some friendly competition.

Are you interested in learning more about the hobby of birding and the types of birds native to our area? Then join us at the Katherine Tyra Library for a free Birding 101 presentation on Wednesday, August 16th at 6:30 PM! This fascinating program is presented by Wild Birds Unlimited. All ages welcome!
