Volunteer!High school teens!  Are you looking for a worthwhile activity to help out your community this summer?  Needing volunteer hours for school or to put on your college or job application?  The Katy Branch is your answer - our summer teen volunteer program needs YOU!  Call or come by the library for more information on our upcoming volunteer orientations.

 

ALLURE OF INDIA

The Katy Branch Library will celebrate Asian/Pacific Heritage Month on Saturday, May 11, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Capture a glimpse of India with delicious Indian cuisine, enjoy Indian dancing, henna designing, and much more.  There will be activities for the entire family.  Namaste!

City of Katy Voting Information

NATIONAL LEMONADE DAY

Sunday, May 5 is National Lemonade Day.  The main objective of Lemonade Day is to empower today's youth to become tomorrow's entrepreneurs.  According to the Houston Lemonade website, more than 50,000 kids participated last year.  Please support these young entrepreneurs on Sunday by making purchases at their lemonade stands.  More information at http://houston.lemonadeday.org/.

Defeat Diabetes

Seven million Americans may have diabetes and do not know it - are you one of them?  Do you or a loved one already have a diagnosis of diabetes?  April is Defeat Diabetes Month and we invite you to join us on Thursday, April 25 at 3:00pm, when a diabetes educator from Memorial Hermann Katy will talk about this increasingly common diagnosis.

You Can Still Get Free Tax Help

Even though the AARP Tax-Aide Program has ended here at the Katy Branch, assistance is still available at some other locations through Monday, April 15.  The AARP Tax-Aide Foundation Locator can tell you when and where.

Birthday Fun All Day on Saturday

Rubber DuckyHelp celebrate the Katy Library's birthday on Saturday, 4/13, by making an animal headband - a cat, duck, pig... even an elephant.  And don't forget to stop by a service desk to get your rubber ducky! 

OPERA @ THE LIBRARY

  The Houston Grand Opera to Go will present Daniel and the Dreamcatcher at the Katy Branch  Library on Monday, April 8 at 4:00 p.m.  Opera to Go is a wonderful way to introduce your children to the joy of a musical story.  In this story, Daniel is afraid of the monster in his closet who likes to shrink things. But when the monster shrinks his family, Daniel has to decide to be brave and confront his fears.  

Garage Sale Prep

Garage SaleStart going through your closets and empty those packed drawers!  The annual city-wide garage sale in Katy is coming up soon.  Keep Katy Beautiful is sponsoring the event taking place on Saturday, April 20.  Register your sale address with the Katy City Hall.  Click here for additional information and the registration form.
