TEEN ADVISORY BOARD

The Katy Library Teen Advisory Board will meet on Thursday, May 25 at 4:30 p.m. Bring your ideas on decorating our new teen area, and how we can make the library teen friendly,  Plus, get volunteer hours for participating.  We will be meeting the fourth Thursday of every month.  

Living Well Expo

A Living Well Expo is being hosted by Parkway Fellowship, on May 20th from 1pm-5pm.  This expo will have lots of information concerning physical, emotional, financial and family wellness.  This event is free to the public and will have entertainment, door prizes, food trucks and much more.

ANIME CLUB

The Katy Library Anime Club will meet on Thursday, May 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Join other teens and tweens to get the latest news in the anime world, discuss your favorite manga, watch some anime and play some games.

May Pages by the Pint Book Club

The Pages by the Pint Book Club May meeting is coming up at No Label Brewery on Tuesday, May 23 at 8 PM! Join us for beer, books, and bonding. The book is Fates and Furies by Laura Groff. There is still plenty of time to read it and you can check out a copy at the front desk at the Katy Branch Library.  Also, please bring your own lawn chair to the book club as seating is limited. Outside food and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome. See you then!

 

Para los Ninos Story Time

Join us on Wednesday, May 10th, at 6:00 pm for our Para los Ninos Bilingual Storytime!  Para los Niños is a fun, educational, bilingual workshop designed by the Children’s Museum of Houston for the whole family. We will be reading stories, singing songs and enjoying hands on learning activities that will make your child’s learning fun and exciting. This program is designed for children age 3-7 years old. Each family will be given a family ticket to the Children's Museum at the conclusion of the program. Space is limited and tickets will be handed out 30 minutes before the program

ASIAN PACIFIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION

Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month at the Katy Library with crafts for all ages. 

The event will be held on Saturday, May 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Stop by the library and get creative with origami, leis, and more.

SUMMER INTERN/LIBRARY AIDE POSITION

The Katy Branch Library has a summer position available for students.  Applicants should have great customer service and computer skills.   The Library Aide will be responsible for assisting with the library’s summer reading program, organizing and shelving materials, and assisting with other library programs.  The work schedule will be Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 pm.  Applications are available through the City of Katy’s website, http://cityofkaty.com/government/job-opportunities/.

Adult Volunteers needed for Book Buddies

Our inaugural Book Buddies this past spring was a huge success!!  We are now looking for adult volunteers for our program this fall, running for ten weeks from September to November.

 

Book Buddies is a free program that brings children and adult volunteers together to share the joy of reading. It pairs trained volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week in the afternoon for 45 minutes of one-on-one shared reading.
 

If you are 18 years old or over and interested in being an adult Big Buddy, please apply through our online application.

If you have a child in K – 3rd grades who you want to help develop a love of reading, we will be posting more information at the end of the summer.
