Hamilton! Teen Button Battle - June 12-24

Have your thoughts been replaced by Hamilton lyrics? Do you enjoy inserting Hamilton references into everyday conversation? Are you ready for the Hamilton Party on June 28? Then come by the Teen Room any time between June 12 - 24 to pick up the button of your favorite character! Who will win? Hamilton, Jefferson, Burr, or Angelica, Eliza...and Peggy?

What is a button battle? It’s where teens vote on two or more of their favorite fandoms by taking a button they can pin to a backpack or anything else. The fandom that has the most buttons taken (aka “votes”), they are the one that wins!

New Computer Installation at the Kingwood Library

Library Customers Using ComputersThe library is excited to share that it is updating its computers for the public. For that to happen we will have to halt Internet and computer services to the public for the entire day on Monday, June 12, as we make the transition. We anticipate those services to be down for only that day and to be back up and running Tuesday, June 13.

During this time everything else at the library offers should be operational. We will still hold our programs. You can browse, checkout and return materials. Our reference help will be available as well.

Thank you so much for your patience during this update. Come give the computers a twirl once we're done!

Ebru Art at Kingwood Library

The Kingwood Library held a special SAGE program on Tuesday June 6th featuring a live Ebru demonstration with Artist Nihal Sonmez of the Islamic Arts Society. What is Ebru? Unesco.org describes it as "the traditional Turkish art of creating colourful patterns by sprinkling and brushing colour pigments onto a pan of oily water and then transferring the patterns to paper. Known as marbling, this art is commonly used for decoration in the traditional art of bookbinding."

Event attendees heard a brief history of Islamic arts and then watched as Ms. Sonmez demonstrated how to marble an image of a rose. Later, participants had the opportunity to create and marble images themselves!  It was a fun, enjoyable, and educational morning.
