Cancelled Lady Bug Program Replaced by Mad Science

The Lucky Lady Bugs Program scheduled for Thursday, June 15 has been cancelled by the performer. We will be presenting a program by the group Mad Science on the following Thursday, June 22 at 2:00 pm. Grand Opening of the Creative Learning Space

Monday, June 5 at 1:30 pm we held the grand opening of the Creative Learning Space. The puzzles, toys, puppets and all the furnishings are a generous gift from The Friends of the La Porte Library to our community's families. It is our hope that our families will find it a comfortable place to enjoy reading and playing with their children.  Pictured left to right are Garrette Smith, Deputy Director of HCPL, Myra Wilson, Branch Manager of La Porte Library and Megan Harper, President of the Friends. 

Braveheart Water Balloon Battle

Join us for a true La Porte tradition on Thursday, June 8 at 2:00 pm. The Braveheart Water Balloon Battle XXI will take place. Dress to get wet. This program is recommended for children 6 or older.

Summer Reading Sign-up Party

Join us for our Summer Sign-Up Party and get signed-up for our Summer Reading Fun. Featuring Magician Jeffrey! Refreshments provided by The Friends of La Porte Library. The fun begins Monday, June 5 at 2:00 pm.

VFW Explains the Flag Retirement Ceremony: Saturday, June 10, 10:30 am. Bring your kids or grandkids and learn about the inspiring ceremony used to retire the United States flag! You are welcome to bring worn U. S. or Texas flag that needs to be retired and the VFW will include the flags in their upcoming retirement ceremony.

Knit/Crochet Circle for Adults: Tuesday, June 13, 10 am (Second & Fourth Tuesday of the month) -- Bring your current knit or crochet project for two hours of peaceful needlework.

Life of a Merchant Marine Officer: Saturday, June 17, 10:30 am. Captain Carol Curtiss shares her interesting experiences as one of the first female officers in the Merchant Marines! She has some great stories!

Book Discussion- ‘My Name is Lucy Barton: A Novel’ by Elizabeth Strout: Monday, June 19, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. Lucy Barton is recovering slowly from what should have been a simple operation. Her mother, to whom she has not spoken for many years, comes to see her. Gentle gossip about people from Lucy's childhood in Amgash, Illinois, seems to reconnect them, but just below the surface lies the tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy's life: her escape from her troubled family, her desire to become a writer, her marriage, her love for her two daughters.

Presented by Ben Ramirez, retired USMC, of Marvin R. Young, VFW Post 4395 in Pasadena. Attendees to the program may bring any worn U. S. or Texas flag that needs to be retired, and the flags will be taken to the Pasadena post for their upcoming retirement ceremony. Free! Bring the kids and grandkids! All ages welcome! Movie Time for Adults

Based on an inspiring true story, this emotionally powerful crowd-pleaser emerged as one of the year's most talked-about independent films. This movie tells the fascinating and epic tale of Li Cunxin, a peasant boy from rural China who beats impossible odds to become a world-renowned ballet dancer with the Houston Ballet.

We will have coffee and water available. Please feel free to bring your own drinks and/or snacks. Rated PG-13. Runtime 1 hour, 57 minutes. We will need to start promptly to finish close to noon. Free. No registration required.
