Book Discussion- ‘Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet’ by Jamie Ford: Monday, May 15, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. In honor of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, join us for a discussion of this historical fiction novel. Henry, a Chinese American, remembers a young Japanese American girl from his childhood in the 1940s--Keiko Okabe--with whom he forged a bond of friendship and innocent love that transcended the prejudices of their Old World ancestors.

Adult Program: 'The Safe Area'

Brochure cover for 'The Safe Area', veterans helping veteransJoin us Saturday, May 6, 10:30 am, at La Porte Community Library, 600 S. Broadway, to learn about ‘The Safe Area’, a unique program based at St. John’s Episcopal Church in La Porte that offers peer-to-peer support for both active military and military veterans. Wayne Norton (U. S. Marine Corps), and Jorge Mazariegos (U. S. Army), facilitators for ‘The Safe Area’, will describe the program that is led by veterans who help veterans.

All facilitators of ‘The Safe Area’ "have received a certificate in Military Veteran Peer Network Basic Training, Texas Veterans Commission and the Military Veteran Peer Network." "Meetings are confidential and are not affiliated with the Veterans Administration or other federal, state, or local government agencies....Persons of any faith group, any belief system, or none, are invited to this community space."

This informative library program on May 6 is free and open to all. Please help us spread the word about this informative program which helps veterans to share their stories with other veterans and find the support they need.

Computer Basics Class

This class introduces a first time user to the desktop computer. Participants will be familiarized with terms used and with different components and features of the computer.
