Adult Volunteers Needed May 7-11

Tired of sitting around the house? Come and help us out at the library! All you have to do is watch the entrance and make a tally mark on a sheet of paper every time someone walks in. Our teen volunteers have the after-school hours pretty well covered, but we need people to count before school lets out. We need volunteers on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1-3 pm, and on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am-3pm. Please call us and sign up for one or more 2-hour shifts. We will really, really appreciate you!

Electronic Books for Kids! / ¡Libros Electrónicos para Niños!

Tumblebooks-Mercy WOne of Harris County Public Library’s many electronic resources is Tumblebooks. It has electronic books for children from preschool through 8th grade. For preschoolers and early readers, Tumblebooks reads the books aloud, highlighting text as it goes. These books are colorful and in motion. Come to our computer lab on Friday, May 4, at 2 pm, and let us show you how to take advantage of this wonderful resource for your kids.

Be Your Own Auto Mechanic

Are you tired of paying a mechanic to do things you suspect you could do yourself? Then come and learn about a digital resource that will make it possible! The Chilton database is free to library card holders and will walk you step by step through thousands of repair and maintenance projects for hundreds of models of cars and trucks. We will host a demonstration in our computer lab on Saturday, April 21, at 10:00 am. Space is limited, so call, stop by, or register through our events calendar.

Steps to Becoming a Published Author

Have you written something that you would like to get published? Well, fortunately, an author right here in our area has written a book entitled “Steps to Becoming a Published Author,” and she is willing to share her knowledge. She will make a presentation here at the library on Saturday, April 14, at 11:00 am. It’ FREE, so you might as well come and hear what she has to say!

The app and digital resource are free if you have a Harris County library card. You can create an account, and Pronunciator will track your progress. It’s easy! Come and check it out. New Book Club for Adults

Poison - LescroartThe first meeting of the Aldine Library’s new book club for adults will be TUESDAY, APRIL 24, from 2:30-3:30pm. Our first book will be “Poison” by John Lescroart. A millionaire businessman is murdered and the police quickly arrest his bookkeeper/girlfriend. Her attorney, Lescroart’s main character, has to find the real killer in order to save his client. Amazon.com customers have given the book 4.4 out of 5 stars.
