Curso Gratuito de Finanzas Personales

BudgetComenzando el JUEVES, 22 DE MARZO, la biblioteca de Aldine va a ofrecer (en español) un serie de clases gratuitas de finanzas personales. Butterfly Garden Craft, Saturday, March 24, 2:00-3:00 pm. Celebrate the beginning of spring by making a miniature butterfly garden in a jar. Supplies are limited, so call or stop by to register.

Teens & Tweens, Arduino to Control Things!

ArduinoArduino is a program and microcontroller kit for building digital devices and interactive objects that can sense and control objects in the physical world, like motors and lights. Come and get hands-on experience using it! Friday, March 9, 4:00-5:30 pm.
Also, create wall art, garland, or gift tags using old maps and Scrabble tiles. Thursday, March 15, 4:30-5:30 pm.

Rising Readers, ages 3-5, a variety of fun activities for learning numbers, letters, colors and more. Monday, March 12, 1:30-2:3- pm.
Craftastic for kids ages 6-12, create wall art, garland or gift tags with old maps. Monday, March 12, 4:00-5:00 pm.
Kids’ Movie, “Mulan,” a young Chinese girl proves herself to be a brave wartime leader. Tuesday, March 13, 4:30-6:30.

“Hidden Figures” and NASA at Your Library

Hidden Figures[En español abajo] February is African-American History Month and NASA Month at your library. A NASA spokesperson will be here on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, at 5:30 to tell us the surprising stories of the little-known but critical contributions of women to the US Space Program. On THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, at 4:00 pm, with materials from NASA, kids of all ages can visit the moon, map the stars, explore space technology, and eat like an astronaut. Read the book “Hidden Figures,” then come and discuss it with other readers on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23, at 4:00 pm.  [We still have 2 remaining FREE COPIES of the book available for people who register to attend the book discussion.] And on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, come and watch the movie “Hidden Figures” with us.

February Crafts for Grown-ups

Lone Star LegalLone Star Legal Aid is a nonprofit law firm created to equalize access for people who otherwise would not be able to afford an attorney. If you meet certain financial and legal status eligibility requirements, Lone Star Legal Aid may be able to provide you with FREE LEGAL ASSISTANCE for:
• Family law, including divorce, child custody, and adoption
• Legal aid to veterans
• Public education, including all sorts of civil rights issues
• Housing, including foreclosure, eviction, and utility shutoffs
• Disaster relief, including repair fraud and help with FEMA or insurance
• Health care, including Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and nursing home issues
• Consumer law issues, including bankruptcy

African-American History + NASA =

Hidden Figures bookFebruary is African-American History Month, and at the Aldine Library, we’re also making it NASA month. To combine the two, we are hosting a discussion of the book “Hidden Figures” on Friday, February 23, at 4:00 pm and showing the movie on Tuesday, February 27 at 4:00 pm. Read the book that the fabulous movie was based on! A limited number of free copies of the book are available for people who register for the book discussion.

Free Computer Classes

Remember that your public library offers free computer classes. The English-language classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. They cover the basics of computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones and commonly-used software like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Click here for more details.

Reading Help for Little Kids, Volunteer Hours for Teens

Book BuddiesParents with children in Kindergarten - 3rd grade: Do you want to help your child develop a love of reading? Then sign them up to be a Little Buddy!
Teenagers in 7th – 12th grade: Do you want to be a mentor? Do you need service hours? Then volunteer to be a Big Buddy!
Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies program pairs trained volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week to read children’s books together for 45 minutes.
