Pen & Paintbrush Book Discussion

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts and the Barbara Bush Branch Library presents the Pen and Paintbrush Book Discussion on January 31, 2019 in the museum's Northgate Forest Conference Room.

During each museum exhibition cycle, a written work related to current art exhibitions is selected for discussion. Pen & Paintbrush events include a discussion of the selected work, followed by a tour of current art exhibitions with a special emphasis on the common themes they share.  This event is open to all – no membership or RSVP is required!

Fun Programs for School Age Kids Every Tuesday at 5pm

Flyer for afterschool programsJoin us every Tuesday at 5pm for a fun activity for school age children. Most programs are for kids ages 5-12, with the occasional program geared for 8-12 year olds. Activities include arts and crafts, STEM activities, holiday fun, guest presenters, games and more! To attend these programs, pick up a free ticket 15 minutes prior to the program at the Children's Information Desk.

New Yoga Class!

We are happy to announce that Rosa is back to teach Yoga! Rosa previously hosted our Friday yoga class and we are so excited she's back. 

Join Rosa on Fridays at 3pm for yoga starting next week, January 25th in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room.

Beginner Mandarin Class January 17, 2019

Join us this Thursday, January 17th, at 6:30 pm for an exciting class presented by Chinese for Everyone. Celebrate the Chinese New Year and learn about the year of the pig. This program is geared for ages 5-12.

A free ticket is required and can be picked up at the children's information desk 15 minutes prior to the program. Children must be present to receive tickets.

Family Craft Time!

Come one come all to our Family Craft! This month we will be making a Valentine's Day themed craft. Craft is geared to those 8 and up. Coloring sheets provided for younger children.

Our family craft will be happening on January 26, 2019 @ 3:00pm in the Earl Elliott Meeting Room. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling us at 832-927-7800 or visiting our events calendar.

Passport Services at HCPL To Be Suspended

yellow exclamationAs of January 1, 2019, the Harris County District Clerk's Office will no longer provide Passport Services at Harris County Public Library locations.

The affected branches are Barbara Bush Branch Library, Clear Lake City - County Freeman Branch Library, Katherine Tyra Branch Library at Bear Creek, Octavia Fields Branch Library & Lone Star College - Tomball Community Library.

HCPL hopes to renew our partnership with the District Clerk's Office in the future to resume this popular service. In the meantime, please visit Travel.State.Gov for any questions you may have about the application process.

The Children's Department is Seeking Teen Volunteers!

Teen volunteer helping students with Lego projectThe children’s department is seeking teen volunteers for the Spring semester. We currently have two types of volunteering opportunities open:

- Teens between the ages of 15 and 18 can be a regular children’s department volunteer. He or she will work a 2-hour time slot once a week. Tasks include craft preparation, help with events, shelving books and more.
- Book Buddies: Book Buddies is an early literacy program that pairs a student between the ages of 12-17 with a little buddy (K-3rd grader) for 45 minutes of shared reading weekly on Monday afternoons at 4:45pm. Applications to be a Big Buddy are due on Jan. 14th and interested teens will need to attend a training on Jan. 14th as well.
