Homeschool Support Group

Starting in September, we will be offering a Homeschool Support Group. Each month, we will highlight a different theme and discuss with suggested materials. In September, we will be meeting on September 15th and the theme is Reading Aloud / English Language Arts & Reading. 

Variety of backgrounds, religious beliefs, and lifestyles are encouraged. We come with an open mind and words of encouragement. Reflect, pick brains, grow, and plan for the future.

Celebrating 20 Years of Harry Potter

20 years ago, on September 1st, 1998, Harry Potter first came into our lives. To celebrate this occasion, the Barbara Bush Branch staff wore Harry Potter t-shirts and costumes. Come by to check out our Harry Potter read-a-like display. You can also check out the ebook of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone right now on Overdrive with no holds and no waiting through Sept. 7th.

New Fall Children's programs

Wednesday Preschool Story time - 11:00 AM

Starting Sept. 6th, join our new Children's Specialist, Taylor, on Wednesday mornings for Preschool Story time.

Come sing, read, and make crafts with Miss Taylor!

Little Engineers - Tuesdays, 2 PM

We are introducing a new 6 week class for preschoolers (3 to 6 year olds). This class will include hands-on activities with Lego Early Simple Machines that investigate wheels, gears, axles and pulleys.

Passport Services @ Barbara Bush Library

The staff from the Harris County District Clerk's office will be returning to process U.S. Passports next week. Walk-ins are welcome, but you can call 832-927-5690 to make an appointment. NOTE: the last walk-in customer will be received 30 minutes before listed closing time. This applies to all locations.

Passport Services will be held during the following days and times in our Earl Elliott Meeting Room:

Tuesday, August 28th from 1pm-6:30pm
Wednesday, August 29th from 1pm-4:30pm
Thursday, August 30th from 1pm-6:30pm

Meet the Staff: PJ

Meet the Staff: PJ

PJ is a Children's Services Librarian at the Barbara Bush Branch. She has worked here for about two years. PJ enjoys going to concerts, sporting events and trying different world cuisine. Her favorite color is blue and her favorite food is tacos. If she were sorted at Hogwarts, she would be in Ravenclaw. She enjoys reading historical nonfiction and one of her favorite books is The Little Prince. PJ has a bichpoo named Loki, after the Norse trickster god.

New Baby Times!

New Baby Story Times!

Starting Monday, Sepember 10th, we will offer 2 different Baby Times:

one for babies aged 0-11 months, and another for babies aged 12-18 months.

You can get a free ticket per child from the Children's Desk 15 mintues before each story time begins.

 

We also have new board books and picture books

Fantasy Football 101

We still have a few slots open for our #FantasyFootball101 class happening on Monday, August 20th @ 7pm.

To succeed in fantasy football, you will need the business shrewdness of a general manager, the knowledge of a pro scout, and the strategy of a head coach. Fantasy football allows you to compose and control your own team of NFL players.

Learn the fundamentals of the game and discover where you can play different types of fantasy football to compete against friends and/or strangers.

These dogs are the stars of our literacy program, Wags and Tales. You'll learn more about the program, learn about what therapy dogs do, and of course you'll get to say hello to our furry friends.
