History of the Blues, Saturday October 6 at 2 pm

The public is invited to learn about the history of the Blues by listening to recorded and live music, with guest speaker William Hunn.  Enjoy a sampling of Southern-style desserts and sweet tea, too.  This Gulf Coast Reads event will take place Saturday, October 6 at 2 pm in the meeting room. 

Adult Craft, Wednesday, October 10 at 3 pm

Adults age 18+ are invited to attend a free craft program on Wednesday, October 10, at 3 pm in the meeting room.  We will be creating a decorative fall charger.  Supplies are provided by The Friends of Crosby Branch Library.  Class size is limited.  Please click on the link to register and reserve your spot.  For more information, stop by the library or call 281-328-3535.

Texas Voter Registration Applications are available for pick up at the library.  The last day to register to vote in the mid-term elections is Tuesday, October 9

Book Club Meets Friday, September 21 at 2 pm

Crosby Book Club will meet Friday, September 21 at 2 pm.  In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, we will discuss The Devil's Highway, by Luis Alberto Urrea.  This is the true story of what went wrong in May 2001, when 26 men attempted to cross into southern Arirzona via the historic El Camino del Diablo, a road through the remote and dangerous Sonoran Desert.  Though not a book about solutions, Urrea's investigative report covers all sides of the complicated issues surrounding immigration and our porous border with Mexico.

Adult Pen Pals Meet Wednesday, September 12 at 2 pm

Do you enjoy writing and receiving letters in the mail?  Please join us on Wednesday, September 12 at 2 pm for the Adult Pen Pal Club.  We'll read and reply to letters from friends at our partner library in Pennsylvania.  You can join the fun even if you can't make the meeting.  Simply compose a brief, cordial letter and drop it off at the front desk, at your convenience.  We'll take care of the rest!

The Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale will take place Friday, September 7, from 1 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday, September 8, 10 am to 5 pm.  Select from a variety of new and gently used books, movies, cds, magazines, and more.

Crosby Library Accepting Applications for Book Buddies Reading Program

Teen and kid reading togetherDo you have a child in Kindergarten – 3rd grades? Do you want to help them develop a love of reading? Then stop by the Crosby Branch Library and fill out an application for our Book Buddies program!

Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies program pairs trained volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week for 45 minutes of shared reading. 

This next session will run from September 11 to November 13 2018 at the Crosby Branch Library. Your child will meet with their Big Buddy once a week on Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:15 PM. 

We are also still accepting applications for Teen Volunteers (Big Buddies)! Mandatory training for Big Buddies will be Tuesday, August 28, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm.

Book Club Meets Friday, August 17 at 2 pm

Crosby Book Club will meet Friday, August 17 at 2 pm to discuss The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto.  Written by Mitch Albom, this is the story of the greatest guitar player in the world.  Presto's life journey intersects with some of the most celebrated musicians of the 40's, 50's and 60's  The narrator claims, "All humans are musical.  Why else would the Lord give you a beating heart?"  Do you agree?

Early voting for the Harris County Flood Control District Bond Election will take place August 8 through August 21.  Visit the library during the following hours to vote:

August 8 - 10        8 am  - 4:30 pm

August 13 - 14      8 am - 4:30 pm

August 15 -  18     7 am - 7 pm

August 19             1 pm - 6 pm

August 20 - 21      7 am - 7 pm
