Book Club Meets Friday, June 15 @ 2 pm

Crosby Book Club will meet Friday, June 15, at 2 pm to discuss Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf.  Published posthumously, Haruf's last novel is the story of two lonely septuagenarians and their tender, late in life love.  Our Souls at Night quietly considers the value of living in the present and appreciating the simple pleasures in life.

See the movie adaptation of the book, starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford, on Netflix.

Book Sale Friday June 1, and Saturday June 2

The Friends of the Library Summer Book Sale will take place in the Meeting Room Friday June 1, 1 pm - 6 pm, and Saturday June 2, 10 am - 5 pm.  Stop by and select from a variety of new and gently used books, magazines, movies, and more, at great prices.  Estate books from the collection of a former Texas State Senator will also be available for purchase.  

Proceeds benefit Crosby Edith Fae Cook Cole Branch Library and support local summer reading programs for all ages.

Crosby Book Club Meets Friday, May 18 @ 2 pm

Crosby Book Club will meet Friday, May 18 at 2 pm to discuss The Translation of Love, by Lynne Kutsukake.  Inspired by letters written to General MacArthur during the Allied occupation of Japan, the characters in this historical novel contend with the extremely harsh conditions of postwar Tokyo. 

Copies are available for check out at the front desk.  This program is free and open to the public. 

Kaminari Taiko Drumming, Saturday, May 19 at 12:15 pm

Crosby Branch Library celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with a unique and exciting program on Saturday, May 19 at 12:15 pm.  Please join us for a special performance by the Kaminari Taiko Drumming Ensemble.  This high energy show uses traditional and modern musical rhythms in the Japanese art of Taiko.  After the show, audience members can play the drums themselves!  

This program is free and open to the public.

Saturday Movie, May 5 at 2 pm

Crosby Branch Library presents "The Last Jedi" on Saturday, May 5th at 2 pm in the Meeting Room.  This movie was released in 2017 and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Mark Hamill.  It is rated PG - 13.  Plan on arriving early and enter a drawing for 2 children's Star Wars books and a stuffed Chewbacca!  We'll also have free popcorn and punch.  To seeing you there, we look forward!

Dia clip artWe have Mother's Day and Father's Day, but what about Kid's Day? Join us for a special Story Time on May 1st at 10:30 am. We will celebrate children and books with stories, songs and a bookmark craft. Each child will also receive a free book!

Friends of Crosby Library Annual Meeting 4/23/18

The Friends of Crosby Library invites the public to their annual meeting on Monday, April 23 at 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.  A guest speaker from the American Legion will talk about the organization's role in our community.

Crosby Book Club Meets Friday, April 20 @ 2 pm

Crosby Book Club will meet on Friday, April 20 at 2 pm in the meeting room.  We will discuss The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit, by Michael Finkel.  This is the true account of Christopher Knight, who so preferred solitude to society, he lived alone in the Maine woods for nearly three decades, sleeping in a tent, and conversing with no one.  How did Knight survive the bitterly cold winters, isolated and undetected, for so long?  And why would he choose this extreme lifestyle in the first place?
