Free Computer Classes at Crosby Branch Library - October Schedule

Computer literacy is essential in today's world.  The library offers free computer classes for adults on Tuesdays and Thursday from 3 to 5 pm.  This month's schedule includes:

  • Basic Windows - October 3 and 5
  • Basic Internet - October 10 and 12
  • Free Email - October 17 and 19
  • Computer Review - October 24 and 26

Moody Gardens Presents: Experience the Rain Forest

Rain forest displayCome and join us for this afterschool program with a special guest from Moody Gardens! This interactive program will engage kids of all ages using the senses of seeing, hearing, touching and smelling. This fun and educational program is on Tuesday, September 26, from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm in the library's meeting room.

Crosby Book Club Meeting Friday, September 15 @ 2 pm

Crosby Branch Book Club will meet Friday, September 15 at 2 pm.  In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, we will discuss Lucky Boy by Shanthi Sekaran.  From rural Oaxaca Mexico, to Berkeley California and Silicon Valley, this timely story invites readers to think more deeply about the evolution of the American Dream, the dilemma of immigration, and the borders of love.  

Book Sale This Weekend!

The Friends of Crosby Branch Library Fall Book Sale will take place Friday, September 8, 1 pm - 6 pm, and Saturday, September 9, 10 am - 6 pm.  Shop a large selection of new and gently used books, cds, magazines and more, at budget-friendly prices.  All proceeds benefit Crosby Library.

HCPL Harvey FAQs

I could not return my library materials because I could not reach the library due to high water. Am I still responsible for the late fees? 

If you return your books by September 15, you will not accrue late fees.

UPDATE: Most HCPL Branches Resume Normal Business Hours & Programming, Monday, Sept. 11.

Harris County Public Libraries Closed through Monday, August 28

Due to severe inclement weather, all Harris County Public Libraries are closed though Monday, August 28.  No late fees will be charged during these closures.  Borrowing dates will be readjusted when libraries reopen.  Stay safe everyone!

Book Club Meets Friday August 18 @ 2 pm

With the solar eclipse fast approaching, it's a great time to read a book set in space, and explore the genre of Science Fiction.  Crosby Book Club will meet to discuss Elizabeth Moon's Remnant Population, on Friday, August 18 at 2 pm.  The novel's protagonist, Ofelia, has lived on Colony 3245.12 for forty years.  When the corporation which runs the colony loses its franchise, the colonists are forced to relocate.  Ofelia, relishing the opportunity to finally be totally free and independent, manages to stay behind, the sole occupant of the entire planet....or so she thinks.  

Free Houston Dynamo Ticket for Kids and Teens

Children and Teens who complete all levels of HCPL Summer Reading Program can receive a free Houston Dynamo ticket when a discounted adult ticket is purchased.  The ticket is for Saturday, September 9th, with the Dynamo vs. the Colorado Rapids.  Free ticket vouchers are available for pick up at the front desk, and must be claimed by September 8th by calling the phone number on the flyer.
