Solar Eclipse Program For All Ages Friday, August 11

We're getting ready for the solar eclipse!  Crosby Branch will host a special eclipse program for all ages on Friday, August 11th at 2 pm in the meeting room.  A speaker from the Houston Astronomical Society will explain what happens during an eclipse, and what we can expect to see here in the Houston area.  There will also be crafts, photo ops, refreshments, and more.  Free safe solar viewing glasses will be available too!  Sound like fun?  Join us!

Saturday Afternoon Movie: Spare Parts!

Calling all teens and adults!  Please join us at Crosby Branch Library, Saturday, July 29 at 2 pm, for the movie Spare Parts.  This amazing story is based on the journey of four undocumented Mexican-American high school students from Phoenix Arizona, who join a robotics club and enter a National Robotics Competition, competing against elite college teams.  We'll have free popcorn, too!  Staring George Lopez, this movie is rated PG 13.

Crosby Book Club meets Friday, July 28 @ 2 pm

Are you looking for a summer romance?  Join Crosby Book Club on Friday, July 28, at 2 pm as we discuss The Last Letter from Your Lover, by Jojo Moyes.  In this 2011 Romantic Novel of the Year, Jennifer Stirling finds an impassioned letter, signed "B", asking her to leave her husband.  Because of injuries suffered in a car accident though, she cannot recall the relationship, and has no idea who "B." is.  Decades later, a young woman finds the same letter in a newspaper archive, and becomes determined to find out if the lovers had a happy ending.

Sign Up for Lego Robotics

Lego Robotics is a fun way for children to learn coding skills while they build with legos, and it's not too late to sign up!  

The Advanced class, for ages 9 through 12, will meet on Wednesday, July 12, from 3 - 5 pm.

Basic WeDo Robotics will meet on Monday, July 17.  There are openings in the 4:30 pm class for ages 9 through 12.

Kids Cafe @ the Library

In partnership with the Houston Food Bank, Kids Cafe offers a free healthy lunch to anyone under 18 years old.  Hours are from 12 noon to 1 pm, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  No registration is required; just come to library's meeting room!  This program runs through August 3.

Free Computer Classes - Digital Media

One of the great things about having a library card is 24/7 access to free downloadable books, movies, music, and more.  On June 27 & 29, from 3 - 5 pm, Crosby Branch Library will offer classes focusing on the digital media collection.  If you would like help getting started on Overdrive, Flipster, Hoopla, and/or One Click Digital, please join us!  For more information, or to register, please ask at the front desk, or call during our regular operating hours.

Family Movie, Saturday, June 24 @ 2 pm

The public is invited to a free afternoon movie, Saturday, June 24, at 2 pm. The featured film is a Harry Potter prequel, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.  It's rated PG13 and is 132 minutes long.  Come beat the heat and enjoy a great show in our cool meeting room!  Free popcorn too! 

Crosby Book Club meets Friday, June 23 @ 2 pm

Crosby Book Club will meet not meet on Friday, June 16 as originally planned.  It has been rescheduled for Friday, June 23 at 2 pm.  Join us in the meeting room to discuss A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman.  According to one reviewer, "If there was an award for most charming book of the year, this first novel by Swedish blogger turned overnight sensation would win hands down".  

Friends' Book Sale Coming Soon!

The Friends of Crosby Branch Library are having a book sale!  It will take place in the meeting room on Friday, June 2, 1 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday, June 3, 10 am to 5 pm.  New and gently used books, movies, cds, magazines, and more can be purchased at bargain prices.  There will also be a special on coffee table books: only 50 cents each!  All proceeds benefit Crosby Branch and help provide great summer reading programs in our community, free of charge.

Crosby Book Club meets Friday, May 19 @ 2 pm

In tribute to Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, Crosby Book Club will meet on Friday, May 19, at 2 pm to discuss The Wangs vs. the World, Jade Chang's debut novel.   When Charles Wang loses everything in the financial crisis of 2008, he embarks on a cross country trip to secure his family and return to his Chinese roots.  Chang's story chronicles some of the ridiculous excesses of the privileged, at the same time revealing her characters' marked capacity for humor and resilience.
