ProCRAFTinate at the Library!

March is the season for crafting (at least at the Evelyn Meador Library). This month, we will be introducing some new crafting and sewing programs to give our community a space to come together, work on projects, and have fun. With our amazing library resources and some expert help, these will be an awesome opportunity to finish up any projects you have lying around the house and get to know some new people.

The theme for this year is “What Will People do on the Moon? Why is it Important?” in celebration of the first moon landing 50 years ago. Admissions will be accepted until April 30 and anyone between the ages of 10-18 can submit.

Get a Book Date for Valentine's Day!

Books will always love you and be there for you. It’s one of those comforting facts of life. In a lot of ways they’re better than people. I mean, they don’t wake you up in the night, they wait until you're ready for them, they don’t eat your food, and the list goes on. So, in recognition of that fact, we recommend that instead of making sure you have a date tonight, you should celebrate this Valentine’s Day right by visiting the library and getting a great book to read. Here’s some of our recommendations to try:

Library Beautification Day!

Join us on Saturday, March 23rd at Evelyn Meador Library for our 4th Annual Beautification Project. We will meet at the library at 10 am and work until around 1 pm. Everyone is invited to participate – Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, your organization -- or yourself! All are welcome. We’ll serve light refreshments and coffee too. You can help your community, maybe see your neighbors and share a cup of java. To register, click here.
Last year’s event was a great turnout. Students needing service hours are welcome. Please join us!

Celebrate African American History Month With Us!

I love our national holidays that celebrate history and culture. Working at the library, I get the opportunity to plan and participate in programs that teach me more about cultures and to interact with peoples that I wouldn’t get to otherwise. That is why I am so excited that February is African American History Month and you should definitely be too. We have some amazing activities for all ages that will allow you to learn more about African American heritage and history, while having fun at the same time. Here are some of the great activities we have planned:

Wiggle with Words, presented by Jalia Movement Arts- Wednesday, February 6, 11:00 AM

Learn About 3D Printing!

With the holidays going on, our 3D printing orientations have been a little less consistent lately. However, The Evelyn Meador Library is proud to say that that has changed now. We'll be back on schedule with orientations on January 26th and February 9th at 2:00.

These sessions are open to all ages. The orientation session will introduce participants to 3D printing in the library, with information on where the county's 3D printers are, how to sign up to use them, how to create 3D projects, and how the printers work. Those completing the class will be able to schedule time on the 3D printer to print your 3D objects.

Help the Library better serve you!

January isn't just a time for people to try to figure out what they can do better. Libraries like to do it too! Help us to better serve you this year by letting us know what your favorite programs of the year were. On our list below are some of our best attended programs of 2018. Let us know what you loved, and if there are other programs we did that you liked, let us know by writing them in! We'll try to take that information to do more of what our community loved as we plan our programs this year.

Keep Your New Year’s Resolution this Year

With the holidays over and 2019 finally here, we’ve all set our New Year’s Resolutions. However, I’m sure at least some of you are worried that this year will be exactly like last year, where halfway through January your goals were already given up. If that is the case, don’t worry. The library is here to help you accomplish those resolutions and have fun during the process. With a variety of events, resources, and opportunities, there’s no goal that we can’t help you with. Here’s just a few of the ways we can help you out:
