Escape the Library

The library has been cursed, and you only have 45 minutes to solve a series of puzzles that will lead you to the counter curse, and your freedom.  Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us for this special haunted escape room, this Saturday, October 28, from 3:00 - 4:00 PM, in the library meeting room.  Every partipant that successfully escapes will be rewarded.  No advance registration is needed, however you must be here before the door is locked.

Tricks, Treats, and Tales

Everyone is welcome on Friday, October 27 at 4:30 pm to out Tricks, Treats, and Tales program. Come trick out some fantastic fall and Halloween crafts and attend one of our two Storytelling sessions. The attendance at the Storytelling sessions will be limited and tickets will be provided an hour before the program. Costumes are welcome! For more information call 713-466-4438.

Pokemon Club!

Join us for Pokemon Club this Friday, October 13 at 4:30 pm. All Pokemon trainers ages 8-12 are welcome to come and trade Pokemon cards, play your DS, or Pokemon Go! There will be drinks and snacks. For more information please call 713-466-4438.

"What we remember - what we forgot - and what we never knew."

Join Harris County Public Library in its support of the PBS airing of The Vietnam War. This is a ten-part,18-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. In an immersive 360-degree narrative, Burns and Novick tell the epic story of the Vietnam War as it has never before been told on film. Libraries around the county will offer public screenings and share the stories of this tumultuous time period with programs and presentations.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Our month long celebration continues this week, with a baking program, just for teens!  Once again, we will be exploring Hispanic cultures with fun activities and traditional foods.  Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us this Wednesday, September 27, from 3:30 - 5:30, when we will be baking mini versions of the Spanish cupcakes, known as Magdalenas. Learn about the origin of the tasty treats, and enjoy yours while watching a fun teen movie. No registration is necessary.  Check our events calendar for more upcoming programs.

Aaargh! A Pirate party

Get ready to walk the plank, mateys! But before ye do, we'll listen to some salty sea stories and make some treasures for ye to take to Davy Jone's Locker with ye. Pick up ye tickets at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, September 20 for dere's only so much space on me ship which will set sail at 4:30 pm. All little landlubbers 3-10 are welcome to board.

Celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month

It's that time of year again!  We want to remind you that library cards are awesome, and they are free!  A HCPl library card grants you access to a catalog of books from not just throughout the county, but the entire country, that can be delivered right to your neighborhood branch.  You also get online access to research databases, from home, work, school, or wherever you go that have internet.  Plus, you can download or stream digital content, like movies, eBooks, magazines, and more.  ...

Baby Bookworms: an infant story time

Join us at the Fairbanks Branch Library on Tuesdays at 11:15 am for Baby Bookworms! All babies ages 0-18 months are welcome to come for songs, finger plays, and nursery rhymes.  Pick up your ticket at 10:45 to come to the program.

I could not return my library materials because I could not reach the library due to high water. Am I still responsible for the late fees? 

If you return your books by September 15, you will not accrue late fees.

UPDATE: Most HCPL Branches Resume Normal Business Hours & Programming, Monday, Sept. 11.
