STEAM Craft

Free CPR Class at Fairbanks Branch

 

Hello Everyone. The Fairbanks Library will be hosting a free CPR/AED class in our meeting room on Tuesday, May 9 at 3:30-6:00 pm. Anyone 16 and over can sign up and you will be certified. The class will be taught by representatives from PartnERs Emergency Centers. You must call their facility at 832-230-1284 to sign up. The class can hold no more than 10 people so seats are limited.  You can also check out our Events Calendar for future CPR classes and other programs.

Teens Go Green!

Earth Day is the perfect day to think about what it means to be green.  Our YA display is full of nonfiction about the importance of being green, and fiction about what happens when the environment is taken for granted.  Each book has a bookmark that you can reuse, and then recycle.  You can find more resources at Earth Day Network's Billion Acts of Green, including links to take the Ecological Footprint Quiz, make your own act of green, and take an online pledge.

Kite Flying at the Fairbanks Branch

Last week the kids came and made kites and since the weather was beautiful, we went outside and tried to fly them!  Though there was the occasional breeze, it was unfortunately a rather still day.  However the kids had a great time trying to get them up into the air!

STEAM Maker Craft

All kids ages 5-10 are invited to make LED Magnet throwies this Tuesday, April 11 at 4:30 pm.  This STEAM craft involves basic electronics and circuits. Call us at 713-466-4438 to reserve your spot!

New Crochet and Knitting Circle at Fairbanks Library

Hello Fairbanks Community. Due to popular demand, we have brought back the crochet and knitting group. It starts Thursday, April 6th at 12:30 pm. So bring your current crochet and knitting projects and share your ideas with other enthusiasts! Don't be shy if you're coming alone or a beginner, we have an enthusiast on staff who will be there to greet and participate with you, too. This circle is open to all ages and there's no need to register. See you there!

Let's Go Fly a Kite

YA for Women's History Month

In case you missed it, March is Women's History Month, and our teen display is full of Young Adult books recommended just for the occasion.  We have nonfiction about awesome women that have made history, and novels with strong female protagonists.  These are the girls and women that inspire you to do and be more, and have paved the way for you to be able to do so.  Visit the library for one of these inspirational reads, and while you're here, you can grab a free Women's History Month button, while supplies last.  Can't wait?  Check out the titles below, to get started.
