New Crochet and Knitting Circle at Fairbanks Library

Hello Fairbanks Community. Due to popular demand, we have brought back the crochet and knitting group. It starts Thursday, April 6th at 12:30 pm. So bring your current crochet and knitting projects and share your ideas with other enthusiasts! Don't be shy if you're coming alone or a beginner, we have an enthusiast on staff who will be there to greet and participate with you, too. This circle is open to all ages and there's no need to register. See you there!

Let's Go Fly a Kite

Join us on Friday, April 7 at 4:30 to build a simple kite and (weather permitting) go into the park to fly it!  All kids 5-10 are welcome to join us for the fun.  Call 713-466-4438 to reserve your spot today!  

YA for Women's History Month

In case you missed it, March is Women's History Month, and our teen display is full of Young Adult books recommended just for the occasion.  We have nonfiction about awesome women that have made history, and novels with strong female protagonists.  These are the girls and women that inspire you to do and be more, and have paved the way for you to be able to do so.  Visit the library for one of these inspirational reads, and while you're here, you can grab a free Women's History Month button, while supplies last.  Can't wait?  Check out the titles below, to get started.

Monday, 3/21 at 4-6pm - One on One help for iPads (reserve a 30 minute spot)
Tuesday, 3/21 at 4pm - Beginner Word 2013
Wednesday, 3/22 at 2pm - Beginner Internet
Saturday, 3/25 at 3 pm - Intermediate Excel 2013 (Our Beginner Excel class is a prerequisite)

Pokemon Club

Come to Pokemon Club Friday, March 24 @ 4:30 pm to trade cards, battle, play Pokemon Go, and make pokemon related crafts.  All kids in grades 2-5 are invited.

Read-In at the Fairbanks Library!

All kids 5-10 are welcome to come and read whatever they want on Tuesday, March 14 from 2-5pm! Bring a pillow, blanket, bean bag chair! Whatever you need to be comfy as we sit back, relax, and share a favorite passage, story, or character! There will be snacks and door prizes! Come and go as you like!

Gear Up for Teen Tech Week!

Next week, the library will be celebrating Teen Tech Week, with fun and informative programs for grades 6-12.  While you're here browse our YA display for a selection of books that are the perfect mix of fierce stories and cool technology.

Tuesday  March 7     4:00 - 5:30 PM     Comic Creators* - Learn to create your own comics using a free website.

Thursday March 9    4:30 - 5:30 PM     Teen Tech Afternoon - Learn how to create your own Android apps by downloading a free software, then craft a small object that will project 3D-like holograms from your smartphone.

Harlem Renaissance Storytime

JJoin us for our Harlem Renaissance Preschool Storytime next Tuesday, February 21 at 10:30 am in celebration of Black History Month. All kids 3-5 are welcome, but you do need a free ticket to enter. The tickets will be in the children's area when the library opens at 10 am.

Teens Celebrating African American History Month

Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us this week for a celebration of African American History Month.  Our monthly teen movie screening, this Friday, February 17, 2017, will feature a movie about a prominent African American figure.  Join us in the meeting room, from 4:00 - 5:30 PM.  We will have fresh popcorn, cold drinks, and a selection of recommended books and movies for you to check out.  There are also many great selections available on our seasonal library displays, including biographies, historical fiction, and genre fiction by African American authors.

African Art Exhibit at Fairbanks

Hello Everyone. In honor of Black History Month, we will be hosting the Gite Gallery on Saturday, Feb 18 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. They will be bringing with them exquisite pieces of African Art ranging from sculptures to paintings and talking about their stories. This exhibit is free and there's no need to register.
