No Story Times the Week of Thanksgiving

Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, there will be no story times the week of Nov. 21 through Nov. 25. The story times will reconvene on Tuesday Nov. 28. All story times have limited space and tickets can be picked up when we open on the mornings of the story time.
Preschool Story Time: Tuesdays 10:15 am Ages 3-5
Baby Bookworms: Tuesdays 11:15 am Ages 0-18 months
Toddler Time: Wednesdays 10:30 am Ages 18 months-2 years

Faithful Paws

All school-age kids are welcome to practice their reading skills by reading a story to a furry, certified, non-judgmental audience. The kids can bring their own book or choose one from the library collection. The program lasts from 2-3 pm this Saturday, November 18 at the Fairbanks Branch Library. Make Your Own Super Hero Costume

All School Age Children are invited to make their own Super Hero Costume at the Fairbanks Library on Monday, November 13 at 5 pm. Space is limited. Call 713-466-4438 to register.

Vietnam War Programming Continues

We would like to say a big thank you to Albert Nahas (pictured right), author of Warriors Remembered, for speaking at Octavia Fields Branch Library in support of our Vietnam War programming. We would also like to say a big  thank you to the teens at Jacinto City for their youth-led discussion on the war. Next week, the programming will make its way to the Fairbanks Branch Library where Samuel Axelrad will talk about his book Peaceful Bones. This is his story of an encounter with a seriously wounded North Vietnamese army squadron leader and the actions he took to save his life. The program will take place on Tues, Nov 7th from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm. There will be copies available to purchase and have signed by Dr. Axelrad. To register, please call 713-466-4438.

Veteran PTSD Awareness at Fairbanks Library

Hello Everyone. Join us in the meeting room at Fairbanks Library on Monday, November 6th at 6 pm for a presentation on Veteran PTSD Awareness by a representative from Camp Hope. Camp Hope is located here in the Fairbanks area and provides interim housing for our Wounded Warriors, veterans and their families suffering from combat related PTSD. Whether you have a loved one suffering from PTSD or just want to gain more awareness about veterans with PTSD, please feel free to join us. You can register by us at calling 713-466-4438. Grade School Programs This Week

We have TWO great programs for your grade-schoolers this week at the Fairbanks Branch Library. Tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 4:45 pm we'll be holding a Dia De Los Muertos Craft. Escape the Library

The library has been cursed, and you only have 45 minutes to solve a series of puzzles that will lead you to the counter curse, and your freedom.  Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us for this special haunted escape room, this Saturday, October 28, from 3:00 - 4:00 PM, in the library meeting room.  Every partipant that successfully escapes will be rewarded.  No advance registration is needed, however you must be here before the door is locked.

Tricks, Treats, and Tales

Everyone is welcome on Friday, October 27 at 4:30 pm to out Tricks, Treats, and Tales program. Come trick out some fantastic fall and Halloween crafts and attend one of our two Storytelling sessions. The attendance at the Storytelling sessions will be limited and tickets will be provided an hour before the program. Costumes are welcome! For more information call 713-466-4438.

Pokemon Club!

Join Harris County Public Library in its support of the PBS airing of The Vietnam War. This is a ten-part,18-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. In an immersive 360-degree narrative, Burns and Novick tell the epic story of the Vietnam War as it has never before been told on film. Libraries around the county will offer public screenings and share the stories of this tumultuous time period with programs and presentations.
