J.R.R. Tolkien Birthday Anniversary!

The Lord of the Rings ranks as one of the best-selling novels of all time, while first editions of The Hobbit have been rated among the most expensive of the 20th Century. With such a high demand and popularity for Tolkien’s works – it’s no surprise why enthusiasts would be more than happy to see more books released.

Author John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born January 3, 1892. Tolkien is such a prolific author that, 45 years after his death (1973), he is still providing us with publications that sell in their tens of thousands.

New to the Parker Williams Branch Library, we are exploring the interest in the Southbelt area for a Chess Club.

Chess is a two player, strategy game that is played by people all over the world.

Staff members will be available to teach beginners how to play.

Chess Club will be held on the Library Floor on November 26th, at 6:30 PM.

Celebrate Holidays with the Library

Now that November has come around, we are all preparing for Thanksgiving, that big holiday at the end of the month. However, there are a lot of other holidays this month that just get overlooked in our turkey preparation. Yeah, Thanksgiving is fun, but should it so blatantly overshadow Have a Party with Your Bear Day (Yeah, look it up. It’s worth a Google)? Or what about the equally important National Fast Food Day? Should that be passed over for a holiday that we just go and eat food? We agree with you that it should absolutely not! So, to help correct this egregious oversight, we at the library are happy to provide some books to help you properly celebrate some of these other holidays (as well as letting you know when these are). You’re welcome.
