Maker Monday features Puzzles and Games on Monday, October 30 @ 4:30 pm

Today's Monday Maker features games and puzzles at 4:30 pm.   Children 5-12 years can have fun with word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, Soduku, Scrabble and Mancala.  This afterschool program is held weekly throughout the school year.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 4:00 pm.  Special thanks to the Friends of Freeman Library for their generous support in purchasing games over the years.

Project Pumpkin - Day 2

  This is Day 2 of Freeman Library's 2017 Project Pumpkin program.   This Freeman tradition features several pumpkins decorated by library staff using paint and other materials but no carving is done to the pumpkins.   The pumpkins were generously donated by HEB and many of the art supplies used on the pumpkins have been purchased through the Friends of Freeman Library.   This year there are 8 pumpkins decorated as classic children's book characters or other popular culture figures.   Today's pumpkin is Poppy  - inspired by the troll in the movie Trolls.  Children and adults can vote for their favorite pumpkins through October 31.  The pumpkins with the top 3 votes will be revealed on November 1.

Trek the Galaxy Program kicks off at Freeman Library on Thursday, October 26 at 6 pm

  Children and families can learn about space exploration in a hands-on experience at Freeman Library this Thursday, October 26 at 6:00 pm.  This hour-long program features several activity stations where children can do fun things like visit the moon, map the stars, and cook like an astronaut!.  This program is brought to Freeman Library through NASA @ My Library.  No tickets will be needed for this event that will be held througout the Children's Department.  

Adults - Friday, 10/27 @ 10:15 - TGIF Programs Friday Film Series Continues!


We look forward to showing Bride of Frankenstein, the 1935 classic horror film starring Boris Karloff, Elsa Lanchester, and Colin Clive. This unrated film lasts 75 minutes.

2017 Project Pumpkin Begins!

   Looking for some ideas on how to decorate your pumpkin this year?  Then check out this year's 2017 Project Pumpkin entrants at Freeman Library.  We will have 8 pumpkins decorated as children's book characters or a popular culture characters  (we have 6 out right now with 2 on the way).   The pumpkins have been decorated by staff using paint or other materials but no carving.   Children and adults are welcome to vote for as many pumpkins as they like through October 31st.   The 3 pumpkins with the most votes will be revealed on November 1st.   We will feature a different pumpkin each day in this blog.  One of our first entrants is Fluffy Unicorn.  It is inspired by a character in the movie "Despicable Me'.

Family Storytime on Saturday, October 21 at 11:00 am

Families looking for something fun to do before lunchtime can join us for Family Storytime this Saturday, October 23 at 11:00 am.  This relaxed storytime features books, fingerplays, and songs.  We meet in the Children's Department, so no tickets are needed.   Family Storytime lasts about 30 mintues and it is held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month.  

Toddlers in Motion this Friday, October 20 @ 10:15 am

Toddlers and their caregivers will be dancing around on Friday morning October 20 at 10:15 am during Toddlers in Motion.  This program is recommended tor children 18 months to 3 years old.  There will be lots of movement and dance, so children should wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  The children also will get to play with fun toys such as toddler-size grocery carts and vacuum cleaners.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available when the library opens at 10:00 am.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for funding many of the toys.

Adults - Friday, 10/20 @ 10:30 AM - TGIF Programs Hosts a Presentation on Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)

Please join us for a presentation by representatives of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). This OLLI, based in UTMB, is a continuing education program offering older adults a grade-free opportunity to discover a variety of subjects and disciplines.

Adults - Friday, 10/13 @ 10:30 - TGIF Programs - Food Fiesta Food Demo!

 

Please join TGIF Programs on Friday for the "Food Fiesta Food Demo" event. Freeman staff will show the audience how to make delicious dishes from Mexico. This food demo is part of our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

This free event will require no registration. The refreshments prepared during this event will be provided by the Friends of Freeman Library.

Moody Gardens presents "Rainforest Roadshow" on Wednesday, October 11 @ 4:30 pm

    Looking for a fun Wednesday afternoon program for your preschool and elementary age children?   Join us this Wednesday, October 11 at 4:30 pm for a special visit from Moody Gardens' Rainforest Roadshow.   We'll have lots of interesting artifacts and neat facts about the rainforest and what it means to us.   Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 4 pm.   We'll have the program in the Children's Activity Space.   There will be books to check out and activity pages at the program.
