November Events in the Children's Department

Here's some fun programs in the Children's Department in November:

Maker Monday at 4:30 pm for children 5-12 years old.  This afterschool program features an activity or craft each week.  11/5 -Magnetic Mosaics, 11/12 - Finger Crochet; and 11/26 - Marble Run.  Tickets given out at 4:00 pm.

Pajama Storytime - Thursday 11/8 at 6:00 pm.  Evening storytime tor all ages.Includes a craft.  Tickets given out at 5:30 pm.

Baby Playtime - Friday 11/9 at 10:00 am.  No tickets needed for this outing for babies from infants through 18 months old.

Family Storytime on Saturday, November 3 @ 11:00 am

Looking for a fun outing for the familly on Saturday morning?  Drop by the Children's Department for Family Storytime at 11:00 am this Saturday, November 3.   We'll have stories, songs, and fingerplays.   No tickets are needed for this storytime.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman LIbrary for supporting and this program.

2018 Project Pumpkin Results!

  The results are in for the 2018 Project Pumpkin: First Place - "Clifford the Big Red Dog"; Second Place - "Thumbs Up for the Library;" and Third Place - "Jack-Jack O'Lantern."  We had 7 staff members decorate pumpkins to look like childrens' literature or popular culture figures.  Children and adults voted on their favorite pumpkin.  We had over 270 voters in this year's Project Pumpkin.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this Freeman Library tradition.

Adults - New Crafts-To-Go Kits Are Here!

Adults - stop by the upstairs Reference Desk, to pick up a Crafts-To-Go kit. November’s project is a decorative turkey (see picture). This free kit will include all materials necessary as well as instructions. This project will be available to adult patrons while supplies last. 1 craft kit/adult present.

Vote for your favorite pumpkin in Project Pumpkin

  Looking for some last minute pumpkin decorating ideas?  Drop by the Children's Department on Tuesday 10/30 or Wednesday 10/31 to cast a vote in Project Pumpkin 2018.  We have 7 contestants - pumpkins decorated by staff from the Adult, Children's, and Customer Service deapartment.  The pumpkins will be on display for voting through Halloween on Wednesday, October 31.   We will announce the names of the pumpkins that received the top 3 number of votes on Thursday, November 1.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program through the years.

Adults - Friday, 11/2 @ 10:15 AM - TGIF Programs - Friday Film Series Continues

 

The TGIF Programs Friday Film Series continues on Friday, 11/02 at 10:15 AM. We look forward to showing a critically acclaimed 2017 film, depicted in oil painted animation, a young man comes to the last hometown of painter Vincent van Gogh to deliver the troubled artist's final letter and ends up investigating his final days there. This film, Rated PG-13, lasts 95 minutes.

The Friends of Freeman Library provide light refreshments for this event. This free program requires no registration.

UTMB Health Southeast Texas Poison Center talk on household safety on Thursday, October 25 @ 2 pm

Looking for ways to make your home safer for your children?  Join us on Thursday, October 25 at 2 pm for an educational talk by representatives from the UTMB Southeast Texas Poison Control Center about ways to keep your children safe from dangerous medicines and household cleaners.  You'll learn about ways to help your child recognize these household items and how to stay away from them. 

Toddlers in Motion on Friday, October 26 @ 10:15 am

Looking for a way for your toddler to burn off a bit of energy?  Join us this Friday, October 26 at 10:15 am for Toddlers-In-Motion.   This program is recommended for children 18 months to 3 years old.   They should wear loose clothes and comfortable shoes because they'll be moving around as they learn new things.   After moving to the music, they'll have a chance to play with some fun toys.   Tickets are required.  They are free and avaiilable when we open at 10:00 am.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program with toys and other materials.

Pajama Storytime on Thursday, October 25 @ 6 pm

  Looking for a fun outing the family this Thursday evening?  Join us for Pajama Storytime at 6:00 pm.  This storytime is recommended for children from infants throuogh 5 years old.  Children are welscome to weaqr pajamas, slppers, and bring a favorite blanket or stuffed animal.  It features books, songs, fingerplays and a fun craft.  Tickets are given out at 5:30 pm.   Thank  you to the Friends of Freeman LIbrary for supporting this program.

Tween Fun: Make a Balloon Race Car on Wednesday, October 24 @ 4:30 pm

   Tweens 8-12 years old will have fun building a balloon-powered race car on Wednesday, October 24 at 4:30 pm.  Tweens will get a balloon and all the supplies needed to put together a neat little car to bring homel.  Tickets for this program will be given out at 4:00 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.
