Hands writing in a notebook

When November rolls around most people are thinking of the upcoming holidays. But one event most people don’t know about is NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. This is a creative writing project at that helps those interested in writing a novel to write one. The point is to write an entire novel in a single month.

It may sound stressful, but there’s a way to do NaNoWriMo without that seeming so scary and intimidating. The trick is to sit down and write your 50,000 words about any subject in any genre without thinking. Once they get started, authors are encouraged to use NaNoWriMo’s website, where they can find writing tips as well as a community of other participants that help to cheer others on.

Intrigued yet?

NaNoWriMo has helped to get numerous authors published, some of whom have even made it to the New York Time’s Best-Seller List. Some authors that might be recognizable are Marissa Meyer, Erin Morgenstern, and Sara Gruen. So, think you have what it takes? Get started on writing your novel right away! It’s still early, you still have time to make the word count. And even if you don’t make it, that’s still more words than you would have had otherwise.
