Star Wars Reads

Hello there! Anjela and Laura STRIKE BACK with more Star Wars book recommendations.

October may be synonymous with Halloween, but to us, it’s STAR WARS READS!

What is Star Wars Reads? It’s a month-long celebration of Star Wars books! Readers of all ages are encouraged to explore books that will take them to a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars and promoting literacy... just two of our favorite things ever!

We have selected books that will go well with recent and upcoming Star Wars projects. May the Force be with your reading!

I really enjoyed the new animated series Star Wars: Visions. It was so amazing to see stories set in the world of Star Wars, but with completely new characters, perspectives, and animation styles. I do have to admit that the first episode, Ronin was my favorite, so I’m excited about Emma Mieko Candon’s Star Wars: Visions – Ronin novel. I can’t wait to learn more about this fascinating character!  - Laura

LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales

The Halloween special LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales really BUILDS on the Star Wars legacy.  I was ecstatic that the special included the first LEGO appearance of REN, the mysterious leader of the KNIGHTS OF REN from The Rise of Kylo Ren by Charles Soule, voiced by Christian Slater. In a similar spirit to LEGO Star Wars Terrifying TalesAre You Scared, Darth Vader? by Adam Rex is a fun and silly picture book children and parents will both enjoy. If you'd rather build your own stories, fear not and check out LEGO Star Wars Ideas Book.  Remember the words of LEGO Poe Dameron: “You can’t control fear. But you can choose what to do with it. Because without fear, you can’t have courage”. - Anjela

Really Anjela? “BUILDS”? #dadjokes - Laura

The Book of Boba Fett

This December is going to be as cold as carbonite... probably not, this is Texas after all, but I'm excited for the new Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett!  Read more about Boba Fett’s history as a bounty hunter in Star Wars: Bounty Hunters Volume 1: Galaxy’s Deadliest. With a tagline that reads: “NEVER BETRAY A BOUNTY HUNTER – ESPECIALLY IF IT’S BOBA FETT!” You know you’re in for loads of action! - Anjela

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series is set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, so you can refresh your memory by reading the novelization of that movie by Matthew Stover. If you want to read Obi-Wan's diary during his Tatooine days watching over Luke in a very uncreepy way, check out The Journals of Obi-Wan Kenobi.  Need more Obi-Wan? Read about his padawan days in Claudia Gray’s Master & Apprentice- Laura

I hope the show answers why he aged so much in 18 years. - Anjela

For real. -Laura

Another show slated for 2022 is Andor, which follows Cassian Andor from Rogue One in his early days as a spy for the Rebellion. Learn even more about the events before Rogue One and why Orson Krennic’s “Project Stardust” is inferior to Thrawn’s TIE Defender Elite program in Catalyst-A Rogue One Novel by James Luceno.  And if you just want to experience more Cassian Andor and then go cry in a corner, Alexander Freed’s novelization of Rogue One should make you happy (sad?).  - Laura

Right in the feels! Thanks, Laura. - Anjela

If you were as excited as I was to see Ahsoka Tano (aka Snips😭) make an appearance in Mandalorian, then you’re probably also thrilled by the possibilities of who could make an appearance in her upcoming series.  I’m not afraid to admit that I’m MOST excited about potentially seeing Thrawn!  If you want to be confused like me as to why you’re rooting for an Admiral in the Imperial Navy, check out any of Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn books, but I know I’m especially looking forward to the final book in the Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy series (Lesser Evil) scheduled for release in mid-November. You can check out Chaos Rising, the first book in the trilogy and get caught up! Read more about Ahsoka’s life between the end of Clone Wars and the start of Rebels in Ahsoka by E.K. Johnston. - Laura

Laura, the show is called AHSOKA, not Thrawn, but ERHMAHGERD, I’m excited to see him in live action too! - Anjela

The Acolyte

The Acolyte is a series that I can’t wait to see in live action as it is set during the final days of the High Republic! If you haven’t started on the High Republic series, now is the time! Seriously, this show is expected to premiere in 2023, so you have time to read. Two hundred years before the Skywalker saga, the High Republic is an era of galactic exploration and peace maintained by the Jedi, but a merciless enemy known as the NIHIL threatens that peace. The High Republic books are a must read for Star Wars fans that are looking for new adventures. Begin your reading with Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule, followed by Into the Dark by Claudia Gray, which has some of my favorite characters, a research loving Padawan and a character that ROCKS. - Anjela

Literally. - Laura
