Harris County Public Library believes that learning and developing new skills are two of life's great pleasures. From basic literacy instruction to help you lead a happier, more productive life to Workforce Solutions seminars on resume writing and interviewing skills to help you land your dream job, all HCPL adult educational programs are presented completely free of charge. So, whether you want to get your GED or pick up a new language or just about anything else you can think of, your first stop should be your nearest HCPL branch. We are, after all, your pathway to knowledge!

Adult Education Programs

Getting your High School Diploma

Harris County Public Library is providing a limited number of FREE scholarships to qualified adult learners, in partnership with Gale/Cengage, we are offering adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate online through Career Online High School (COHS).

Applicants who successfully complete an online self-assessment and a 2 week prerequisite course, followed by an in-person interview, will be considered for a free scholarship to attain their accredited high school diploma. Once accepted into the program, students will be given up to 18 months to complete the program.

To be considered for the program, applicants must:

  • Be age 19 or over
  • Reside within Harris County
  • Have a Harris County Public Library card
  • Be able to dedicate 8-10 hours per week to the course study.
  • Have access to a computer & internet at home or be able to visit a participating library branch.
